‘The Government has urged parents to avoid taking their children on holiday during term time, after new research showed … that an estimated 530,000 days were lost due to unauthorised holiday taken during term time (in the UK)…. It means that roughly one in ten of all days missed during these two terms was due to family holidays.

 Currently, schools are able to grant up to 10 days authorised holiday on a discretionary basis, but guidance to schools states that this should not be an automatic right for parents, and that heads should consider how seriously the holiday would affect the child’s educational progress in their decision.
